Thoughts on the All-Star Reserves

So the All-Star NBA reserves are announced and once the commish chooses who should replace Yao (please be Kevin Love or LaMarcus Aldridge), the rosters will be set. So here are my thoughts on these choices.

Winners Gonna Win
Only one player on the All-Star rosters is on a losing team, and that one player is Blake Griffin, who, as an LA Clipper and NBA highlight reel, was an inevitable selection for the All Star Game. Everyone else is on a winning team. In fact the only team with a .500 record or higher not represented was the Portland Trail Blazers, who had a worthy selection in LaMarcus Aldridge.

Staying Power
Only two players will be playing in the All-Star Game for the first time. They are, as of now, Russell Westbrook on the Oklahoma City Thunder and Blake Griffin, who is the first rookie player since Yao Ming. In fact, Kevin Garnett on the Boston Celtics will be playing in his 14th straight All-Star Game, tying the record.

Gimme Some Love
The All-Star coaches (Gregg Popovich and Doc Rivers) gave their respective players a lot of love. Four Celtics (Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen) were chosen as All-Star reserves, tying the record for the most All Stars on a single team. Two Spurs (Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili) were chosen, despite putting comparatively pedestrian stats compared with other players on losing teams.

Snubs and Surprises
Biggest surprise has to be the addition of Tim Duncan, who is putting up good numbers for a decent player, but mediocre numbers for a future Hall-of-Famer. He was essentially chosen for his track record as an amazing player. The biggest snub is definitely Kevin Love, who is being ruined by his T-Wolves' pathetic record at 11-37. He is averaging 21.4 points, 15.5 rebounds, and 44% from beyond the arc. He is having a superb season and hopefully he will replace Yao. Also snubbed was LaMarcus Aldridge who is carrying the Trailblazers on his back.

Update: Steve Nash is in the All Star Game as Yao Ming's replacement in one of the stupidest decisions ever. With plenty more deserving players out there, David Stern chooses the two-time MVP who isn't having as great a season as, say, Monta Ellis, LaMarcus Aldridge, or Kevin Love.

Re-Update: Never mind. I had faulty information from a certain Yahoo Sports. Kevin Love is replacing Yao Ming.
